Is techDIGITS an ICANN accredited Registrar?
techDIGITS is a reseller of Tucows OpenSRS, which is an ICANN accredited registrar. With the break up of the Network Solutions monopoly on domain registrations, there are many accredited registrars which feed their registrations into the root TLD zones. Because of the competitive environment we are able to provide you a quality registration service at a lower price.

I already have a domain name registered. How do I transfer it to techDIGITS to use your services? From the quicklinks on the right side of this page click on the "transfer a domain" link. This will take you to the Domain Relocation Wizard, which will take you through the process of transferring your domain to techDIGITS.

What happens when I transfer my domain to techDIGITS?
Domain transfers are a multi-step process. After you complete the online forms, the following happens:

1. We send the transfer request to our registrar, OpenSRS.

2. OpenSRS sends a request for confirmation to the current administrative contact of the domain.

3. When OpenSRS receives confirmation, they will evaluate it. If they are satisfied that the person requesting the transfer has the authority to make the transfer, they send the transfer request to the losing registrar.

4. If the losing registrar has no valid reason to deny the transfer, they approve the domain transfer.

5. When OpenSRS receives the approval, the registrar transfer is initiated.

6. When the registrar transfer is complete, OpenSRS notifies us. We then have the Name Servers for your domain changed to techDIGITS', and notify you that the transfer is complete.

There are a few exceptions to this procedure, as explained in the next two questions.

What problems could delay or prevent the transfer of my domain to techDIGITS?
If the e-mail address of the current administrative contact for the domain is invalid, you won't receive the confirmation e-mail and won't be able to confirm the transfer. Please see the next question for information about correcting your e-mail address.

* The losing registrar can deny a transfer for several reasons: if the domain is not paid for, if the domain is less than 60 days old, if the domain is involved in a legal dispute, or at their discretion.

* Domain is not paid for: If your domain is due for renewal with the losing registrar, you have up until the day before the renewal date to complete the transfer of your domain. After that, you will have to pay the losing registrar's renewal fee before you will be able to transfer your domain.

* Domain is less than 60 days old: A domain cannot be transferred within the first 60 days after it has been registered. Transfers within the first 60 days will be automatically declined by the losing registrar.

* Domain is involved in a legal dispute: If your domain is the subject of a litigation matter, involved in a bankruptcy proceeding, trademark dispute or dispute over the identity of the registrant, the losing registrar will refuse to transfer your domain.

* At the discretion of the losing registrar: The losing registrar of your domain can also deny the transfer at their discretion. However, your transfer cannot be denied without valid reason.

The current administrative e-mail for my domain is invalid. How do I correct it?
If you currently have your domain registered with us and your admin contact e-mail address is no longer valid, the listed domain owner must send Tucows a signed fax requesting that the address be updated. A copy of the admin e-mail change form can be downloaded from the quicklinks on the right side of this page.

If you are attempting to transfer your domain to us from another registrar this unfortunately can cause headaches. Please make sure that the administrative contact e-mail address for your domain is correct before you submit your transfer request, or your domain will be "locked" for security after you submit the transfer request and you will not be able to make any changes (including correcting your e-mail address) for five (5) days.

At this time many registrars are using a user ID and password to access their domain management system.  If you have forgotten or lost your user ID and password you will have to contact the registrar to identify what method of identification you have to provide for them to update your administrative e-mail address.

What's the difference between an OpenSRS registered domain name and a Network Solutions (NSI) registered domain name? There's no difference between a name registered with OpenSRS and a name registered with Network Solutions. Network Solutions is better known because they ran the first domain registration business without competition for a number of years.

How much does it cost to transfer my domain name to techDIGITS?
Domain transfers, registrations and renewals are each $14.99/year.  All techDIGITS fees are non-refundable and non-transferable once your domain has been transferred to our service.

Are there any other fees if I transfer my domain name to techDIGITS?
There are no additional fees to transfer your domain, because you are transferring your domain registration to the OpenSRS system.  You no longer have to pay any registrar fees to the company you first registered your domain with (e.g., Network Solutions, or Register.com) The only fees you have to pay are the OpenSRS registrar transfer fee. Additional fees will be payable when your current registration period expires.

If I transfer my domain name to techDIGITS, how long will I have your service for?
Your length of techDIGITS service will be one to ten years, depending on what option you choose when you use the Domain Relocation Wizard. Domain registrations receive one year in addition to the remaining time on your domain when they are transferred to techDIGITS.

For example, let's suppose you registered your domain on January 1st, 2003 and the original registration was for two years. Your domain would be due for renewal on January 1st, 2005. If you transferred your domain to techDIGITS on February 1st, 2004 and chose a two year renewal term, you would receive two additional years of registration, so your domain wouldn't be up for renewal until January 1st, 2007.

What services do I receive if I transfer my domain name to techDIGITS?
For $14.99 you will only receive a domain registration or renewal.  We also have web hosting services as well as 128 bit SSL certificates. If you need web design services techdigits.com also offers web design services.

My domain is already registered with OpenSRS. Can I still transfer my domain to techDIGITSAbsolutely! You will get a request to transfer your domain from your existing OpenSRS reseller asking to transfer your domain to the techDIGITS reseller.

How long does it normally take to transfer a domain name?
Approximately 5-10 business days to successfully transfer your domain to our servers. If you requested a transfer of your domain more than ten (10) business days ago and haven't heard anything back from us, please contact our support department at accounts@techdigits.com.

Does this mean that I am transferring ownership of the domain to techDIGITS?
Absolutely not! When you transfer your domain to techDIGITS.com, the only changes to your domain are the Name Server settings and the Technical Contact information. The Technical Contact is required so we can ensure your domain functions properly at all times. You are still the owner of your domain, and retain full administrative control at all times.

I have an e-mail which says that my domain has been transferred, but my Web browser still goes to my old host. Why?  When you receive the e-mail confirming the transfer of your domain, there are many more steps still to be done behind the scenes. The transfer of your domain will be entered into the global WHOIS database, and the new information must travel to all the ISPs in the world. It will be 48-72 hours after you receive the confirmation e-mail before your Web browser will go to your domain through techDIGITS.
